Definition Of Prosperity And Gods Promises For You
I’ve written many articles about the definition of prosperity and Gods promises
of prosperity for us, but there are still a few points I’d like to discuss. One point
is about redefining YOUR prosperity, and the other point is about believing
and living the promises that God has made.
We all have ideas about prosperity and what it means to us. I’m sure if you asked
several people, you would get several different answers, but what’s important is
how you view YOUR prosperity.
I've often said that your life is a reflection of your beliefs. Well your life is also a reflection
of your prosperity, and if you believe and feel that you are content with what you have,
then that’s what your life will be.
In order to redefine the definition of prosperity for your life, you have to first redefine your
belief system. You have to believe in it, and then you have to believe you can obtain it or
achieve it.
So define your prosperity, and if you ARE happy and content with the way your life is, then
congratulations - you have done what most of us are still trying to do.
Gods promises are very dear to me. They are words that I take to heart, but many of us
have beliefs that are contrary to His words. We have been taught that it’s wrong to want
or desire more than we have.
That we should settle for what we have and not want more. That it’s okay to be poor,
and that if we desire more in our lives - then we’re greedy and sinful.
This is what I was taught, and this is what I believed for years. Until I started thinking
and reading, and came to the conclusion that something wasn't right. It just didn’t make
sense.
What didn’t make sense was hearing one thing and then reading Gods promises. I had to change my
definition of prosperity, because what I was taught and what I was reading didn’t match. How can reading:
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency
in all things, may abound to every good work: II Corinthians 9:8
Or what about:
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified
in the Son. John 14.13
Or this:
Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive
them, and ye shall have them. Mark 11.24
And still:
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Phillippians 4.19
And what about this:
And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, whatsoever ye
shall ask the Father in my name, He will give it you. John 16:23,24
And it goes on and on and on! But my favorite is a simple little verse that goes something
like this:
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.... Psalm 23:1
I read a story once, about a man who prayed and asked God why his needs weren’t being met.
God answered the man and told him that his needs were not being met because he didn’t expect
them to be met.
The man thought about this for a few minutes then told God that his needs were more like wants,
and he had been taught to only pray for the things he needed in life.
God told the man, “Okay, you are a great believer in the Bible and the words within it, what
does Psalm 23rd chapter, the 1st verse say?”
The man replied, “Why it says the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.”
God said, “There you go, I supply ALL your WANTS and ALL your NEEDS!
Today, a lot of people are finally changing their definition of prosperity and coming to the realization
that it’s okay to have their needs as well as their wants fulfilled.
Redefine your definition of prosperity. According to Gods promises, He does not want us to live in poverty,
illness, and debt. He has given us all the guidance in scriptures that we need to go beyond that and live
our lives according to how He wants us to.
Don’t believe for a second that He thinks it’s alright for us to live that way. For those of
you who are parents, think about it for a second... would it be okay with you for your children to
live in poverty and debt? To have them wanting and needing and never getting or having because they
believe this is how you want them to live?
Redefine the definition of prosperity according to Gods promises about your wants and your needs,
then trust and believe in Him to deliver on these promises.
