Benefits To Achieving Goals

You Are The Captain Of Your Fate

One of the benefits to achieving goals is looking back at the progress you’ve made. It gives you a sense of accomplishment and pride to know that you’ve come so far. And a sense of strength to know you don’t ever want to go back.

The knowledge that a few months ago...none of this would have ever crossed your mind... but giving thanks that you discovered ways to make your life better. Discovering a whole new universe and a new way of thinking.

Part of achieving goals is knowing that you really are the captain of your fate... and this gives new meaning to how you live your life.

Other benefits to achieving goals is knowing you’re just that much closer to where you want to be and experiencing the thrill of knowing you can do this. That the only thing that can stop you... is You!

5 Benefits of Setting Goals
By Duncan Brodie

Imagine you decide you are going to go on a trip. You have not decided where to go. It comes to the first day of your vacation and still you have no idea where you are going. How far do you think you will get? Chances are you will be stuck right where you are. Contrast this with having clarity on your destination.

It allows you to set out how you are going to get to your destination- road, rail or air. It allows you to choose where you are going to stay and what activities you will do each day. In a nutshell it allows you to plan and get esults. There are numerous benefits of goal setting. Here are five compelling benefits for me.

Focus

If you have a goal it gives your focus something to aim for, a target or dream to work to.

Motivation

Achieving or making progress towards a goal can be hugely motivating. Imagine for example you want to improve your fitness. When you start you can only exercise on the treadmill for a short period of time at a relatively slow speed. Pretty quickly you can comfortably run for 15 minutes at a reasonable speed. It’s a great feeling when you reach and then pass a previous best.

Success

If you set yourself a goal you are more likely to succeed. Once you set an idea in your mind that you are going to do something, there is likely to be a much greater chance of success. Why? The reason is that you will go the extra mile to achieve it.

Confidence

If you start setting and achieving goals your confidence will rise. I use myself as an example. I left school at 16 with basic qualifications. I started an Accountancy Diploma at night school.

Each time I passed a set of exams it gave me the confidence to tackle the next level. Eventually I qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant.

Growth

Every time we set a goal we grow as a person. The reason for this is that we are probably going to have to develop or learn about something to achieve it. Setting up my web-site is a good example. I would describe myself as IT competent. Despite this I purchased a website builder, had a go, got some feedback and asked for help when stuck. The learning and growth from doing what might appear as a simple task was huge.

Take time to set some goals and enjoy yourself achieving more and more.
