A Candle Business
In starting a candle business, first you need to know that there are different ways you can start this business, and there are a lot of direct sales companies that will let you run your own business...and they supply you with the candles. However, if you prefer, you can always make your own candles and start the business from scratch.
Skills You Will Need
Now, if you're going to make your own candles, you'll probably need to learn all the processes...of heating, scenting and pouring wax from someone who has the experience.
If you decide to go the direct sales approach, more than likely you will do the home parties as a selling technique. If that's the case, you need to be comfortable in a room full of people, and you need to be comfortable being the center of attention.
Tools You Will Need
If you decide to start your candle business by going through a direct sales company...you probably will be required to purchase their kit. The kit will have enough merchandise to get you started.
However, if you're making your own candles, you will need to purchase your own supplies...like wax (there is bees wax or paraffin), molds, scents, wicks, dyes and you will also need a pan or pot to melt the wax in.
Getting Started
The first step should be setting up your own website so you can begin building an online presence. Once the website is up and running, you need to start marketing yourself. You can easily market a candle business offline by giving them as gifts or by renting a booth at a craft fair and showing them there.
Marketing a candle business online can be just a little trickier...especially if you joined a direct sales business--where the competition is pretty stiff. But it's not to say it can't be done...if you start networking with people by joining a few message boards or forums. Build up some personal relationships and you will soon find people coming to you to purchase their candles.
You should also think about having some business cards printed up so you can hand them out to people. You never know when you might need. Flyers also make an excellent offline marketing tool. You can put them up on your local grocery store community bullentin board, the library, etc.
Making a candle business a success is going to take time...
especially if you make the candles yourself. Remember that a good business is not born overnight. It will take time and effort on your part. Set whatever daily and weekly goals you have for your business...then celebrate your small triumphs. Also, don’t let any setbacks or goals you could not meet--keep you from reaching the things you desire.
